San Juan de la Peña Monastery

An enormous rock surrounds the monastery of San Juan de la Peña, which, according to legend, guarded the Holy Grail.

A stop for St. James’ pilgrims, pantheon of the Kings of Aragon, Benedictine monastery...  – the uses of San Juan de la Peña have been so many throughout the years that it well deserves a trip to discover its art and history, framed by its natural surroundings, which still whisper echoes of the past. The Romanesque prevails in a protected landscape where the old monastery gave way to the new, built in the 17th century in the esplanade next to it.
